Since being elected as your State Government representative in February 2004 I have worked hard to make sure our community is included in thorough consultation on local issues and that residents’ views are heard. Together we have achieved much in the Currumbin electorate, an exquisitely beautiful area and one dealing with the pressures of rapid population growth.

I wish to thank the residents of Currumbin for re-electing me as the state member. It is indeed an honour to continue to serve such a close-knit community. As the minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games I look foward to delivering a positive outcome for all of Queensland.

I hope you find this site useful as a means of acquiring information and will make the most of the opportunity to express your opinions and concerns.

Don’t forget to follow me on facebook and twitter to keep up to date with local and state issues.

UPDATE ON LOCAL ISSUES:

POWERLINE PROJECT OFFICIALLY CANCELLED: Following a detailed review Energex has now cancelled the Mudgeeraba to Tugun 110kv Powerline Project confirming that electricity demand on the southern Gold Coast can be sufficiently serviced from the existing network until beyond 2020. This is welcome news for residents of Currumbin after years of heartache and stress for the community.

Over 9,200 people signed the petition opposing the quarry planned for bushland in the Tallebudgera Valley area. ‘Stop the Gold Coast Quarry’ Action Group have been raising awareness of the issue since the proposal became public in November 2010. An Environmental Impact Statement will be prepared over the next 12 months and is expected to be lodged in 2013, when it will be available for public comment.

A report into options to improve the current situation at Kirra beach and the long-term operation of the Tweed River Entrance Sand Bypassing Project has been released by the Queensland and NSW governments. The report is available online here. Kirra Beach is an issue I will continue to fight for not only for the residents of my community but for Queenslanders as a a whole.

Currumbin Hoon Watch
The Newman Government will work to enforce the strictest anti-hooning laws in the nation, a relief for the residents of Currumbin. Hooning cars will be clamped and off the road for their first offence and subsequent offences will see the cars forfeited or crushedReport cars street racing, trail bikes and burnout offences in your street by filling out the Currumbin “Hoon Watch” form. Our office will forward this information to our local police to assist in the identification and prosecution of offenders. DOWNLOAD HOON WATCH FORM

As other issues emerge I shall use this website as a bulletin to inform residents and to communicate developments relating to our electorate.

Thank you for taking the time to visit.

Kind regards
